Training course “Optical and SAR Copernicus data for land applications” held on 19–20 February in Tõravere, Estonia

University of Tartu Tartu Observatory in cooperation with Tartu Science Park hosted a training course “Optical and SAR Copernicus data for land applications” on 19–20 February 2020 in Tõravere, Estonia. The course was condacted by the European Space Agency using the RUS Copernicus resources.

RUS Copernicus provided a two-day hands-on training session, where participants accessed a Virtual Machine from their own laptop to exploit the open source toolboxes available in the RUS environment to download and process Sentinel data.

25 participants gained practical knowledge and skills on how to use freely available Copernicus data on four applications:

  • crop Mapping using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2
  • flood mapping with Sentinel-1
  • burned area mapping with Sentinel-2
  • active fire detection with Sentinel-3

The workshop was supported by the project BalticSatApps that is financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund, within the programme Interreg Baltic Sea Region.
